What is an emerging artist?
An emergent artist is a person who addresses the exigency of a contemporary approach while uncovering original concepts and by executing the artwork using innovative techniques of production. An emergent artist is also someone that has been producing artwork actively but has never had the full exposure among the art circles.
What is The Emergent Artist Award’s mission?
The EAA is an organization composed of high profile art experts and art consultants whose mission is to promote emerging artists at an international level. The EAA is conducted in partnership with the Alliance Française of Dubai, the French cultural organization who has received the Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Patrons of the Arts Awards 2010 by Dubai Culture & Art Authority.
What are the judging criteria?
Judges will evaluate and score the artwork based on the artist demonstrating:
- Original concept of the theme
- technical prowess
- personal style
- Quality of execution
The artist that excels in the above criteria will be awarded the Emergent Artist for 2012.
Who can participate?
The competition is open to all that are over the age of 21 (following the majority law of the United Arab Emirates). The competition is open to all residents in countries across the globe.
How do I submit my work?
You need to register on the EAA website, pay your registration fee and submit your artwork by login into the artist section. Before uploading the images, please make sure they follow the image submission requirements (see rules). Artists can submit their artwork at different time but need to make sure 15 images have been uploaded before the competition closes (in 31 Dec 2011) for jury consideration.
What does the registration fee cover?
The registration fee covers your application process, platform maintenance and protection of data.
Are there any size restrictions?
The maximum size permitted is 80 x 80 cm.
How will I know if my submission is complete, and what do I do if it's not?
If, at the closing of the competition, a submission is incomplete (e.g. the images have not been uploaded correctly or the submission has not been paid), it will not be eligible for juried consideration. Though we make every effort to make contact and to ensure completion of submissions, we are not responsible for incomplete entries and are unable to offer a refund should an entry be incomplete at the time of the competition's closure. However, you may check on your entry status by logging into the artist section.
My image(s) didn't upload correctly, what do I do?
This is probably occurring because the file is either not in RGB, 72 DPI, JPG file or larger than 2MB. Please try to upload once again by following the Image Submission directions. If you encounter further problems, you can contact our support team at admin@emergentartistaward.com
How many times can I enter?
You can enter only once for this competition.
When is the entry deadline?
We must receive your entry before 31.12.2011 at 23:59 GMT.
Are any countries excluded from the competition?
No. It is an international competition.
Are there any restrictions on the media I can use?
Media accepted: digital photography including all the innovative treatments of image.
Can I enter someone else's work on their behalf?
Your work must be created solely by yourself, if someone else is an aspiring artist they must enter themselves.
How will my work be judged?
The artists have until December 31 to submit their artworks. The jury will then start the evaluation process. Every entry will be evaluated independently by each judge, based on creative merit, technical excellence and interpretation of the theme. The participant will be able to check his/her application status online. The winner will be announced publicly during the month of January 2012 and the award ceremony organized in March 2012.
